ARE YOU A MAN WITH A PHYSICAL DISABILITY WHO REQUIRES SOME FORM OF ACCOMMODATION?

IF SO YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICPIATE IN A RESEARCH STUDY

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study is to pilot-test a peer-implemented group program designed to improve stress management in men with physical disabilities who are feeling down.

INVESTIGATORS: Dr. Hassouneh is leading this study at Oregon Health & Science University in collaboration with HASL Center for Independent Living and Abilitree Center for Independent Living. ELIGIBILITY: You may be eligible if you:

  • have a physical disability
  • are 18 years of age or older
  • Use some form of accommodation
  • are not actively suicidal
  • are interested in improving your stress management skills 
  • are feeling down

PARTICIPATION: Should you choose to participate you will be asked to answer screening questions to ascertain your eligibility for the study. If you are eligible and wish to enroll in the study, you will be randomized to a treatment or control group. If you are randomized to the control group, you will not attend the peer program but will still complete questionnaires. If you are randomized to the treatment group, you will be asked to attend 15 weekly group sessions and complete questionnaires. All identifying information will be removed from data to maintain your confidentiality.
